A stunning pearl button made from the Pinctada margaritifera, or black lip pearl shell. The characteristic rainbow highlights on grey of the mother shell of the black pearl are highly sought after; used in jewellery, and high end button manufacturing, as in these magnificent creations from Italy.
 
The face background has fine concentric circles; a repetitive triangle pattern around the edge is followed by millgrain (tiny dots), with 3 floating flowers and a central flower-like formation. Astounding.
